About the Oracle's Creator

My name is Emily Crookston. I accidentally got into the wedding planning business when different parts of my background collided:

• I'm a small wedding advocate. After officiating a friend's wedding and falling in love with simple celebrations, I realized wedding planning should be fun, not stressful. I eloped because I didn't want to deal with traditional planning—but I would have had a small wedding if I could have made the process more enjoyable.

  
  

• I'm a ghostwriter and former philosophy professor. I help experts get their big ideas out of their heads through the right questions. The same principle applies to weddings: couples already know what they want; they just need tools to access that wisdom.

  
  

• I'm a rebel against the wedding industrial complex. Weddings should reflect what couples actually want, not what vendors think they should want. Small weddings are incredible, but the details still matter when you're keeping things simple.
