About
This course will teach you how to use AI ethically and thoughtfully to do meaningful work and even reinvent your profession. It combines mindset shifts with hands-on building. You will end the course with new mental models for AI and a custom chatbot of your own. You will start by learning about two fundamentally different approaches to using AI. The typical approach is to use AI to produce finished work for you, like ordering takeout. This can be helpful sometimes, but it is limited and may result in low-quality outputs, skill loss, cognitive decline, automating yourself out of a job, and compromising your values. The alternative is using AI to create processes where you remain integral to the work, like a chef creates recipes and is key to the execution. This is what I call the Chef Approach to AI. You will combine theory with hands-on work to build the foundation of custom chatbots and AI agents, called a system prompt, in the spirit of the chef approach. Throughout, you'll work with a detailed online tutorial and a specialized chatbot I created to guide you through each step. It embodies the same principles you'll be learning—helping you think rather than thinking for you. In addition, you will be added to my newsletter to get access to blog posts to expand on what you will learn. Time Commitment: This is a self-paced course that typically takes up to 10 hours to complete, though it could extend to 15 hours if you explore deeply. This course is a starting point that provides you with a foundation. If you want to go deeper, the next step is the AI Chefs Collaboratory, where you will refine your work with direct guidance and peer feedback. Contact me if you are interested. By the end, you'll have the foundation for your own custom chatbot or AI agent (aka, a system prompt), confidence for working with AI, and new mental models for thinking about AI's role in your work and life.
